Eligibility:
Discretionary grants are made only to organizations which are tax-exempt under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our grants committee oversees our grantmaking and all distributions are approved by the Board of Directors.
The Community Foundation seeks to leverage opportunities in the region where a moderate amount of grant money can achieve a significant result. We look for proposals from organizations with a well-planned approach to issues and needs, with a demonstrated base of support, committed leadership, and the involvement of individuals with the skills necessary to carry out the work. We are interested in those organizations that can demonstrate that they have planned their projects in light of overall community need. The fields of interest covered by our grants are social services, education, community and civic affairs, arts and culture, and health.
A request which asks the Foundation to provide a portion of a project will generally receive greater priority than one which looks to it as the single funding source. A typical grant amount is $2,000 to $5,000 although we sometimes give larger impact grants.
Exclusions:
Those causes for which the Community Foundation does not provide funding from its discretionary funds are: operating expenses and grants to individuals.
