Conklin Cares

For as long as they can remember, Don and Theresa Conklin have made giving part of their family's lifestyle. So when they decided to start a business, they naturally included giving in their business mission.

"I always had a dream of starting my own business," Don Conklin said. "I would always tell our family friend and now [business] mentor Matthew Holtkamp about my dream."

Don recalls how one day, after telling Matthew about his idea of creating signs and graphics for individuals and local businesses, Matthew said "Well, why don't you?"

That was the push Don and Theresa needed. They began envisioning their mission and products and Pinnacle Custom Signs became reality in 2011.

Not long after they opened, Don asked Matthew for his advice - this time about developing a charitable presence in the community. The Conklin's spirit of giving is deeply rooted in their faith, and they wanted to continue that emphasis through their business.

"I asked Matthew how he formed his foundation and that's when he told me about the Community Foundation," Don said. "I saw how the Holtkamp's were involved [with the Community Foundation] and I hoped to get to that level of involvement as well."

As a result, the Conklin's created their own foundation, Conklin Cares, through the Community Foundation.

"God has given to us, so we give back what we have been given," Don said. "We hope working with the Community Foundation will put us in a position to help give to organizations who are deserving but often overlooked."
